How we work — How your criminal case unfolds

You always know where you stand

A criminal case is probably new and bewildering to you. To us it is familiar routine. We guide you through every step and make sure you are never caught off guard.

From first police interview to verdict

Arrest or summons

You are arrested, invited for interview or receive a summons. From this moment you are a suspect and you have rights — including the right to remain silent and the right to a lawyer.

First assistance

We assist you before and during the first interview. Together we decide whether and what you say. You do nothing without consultation.

Case file & investigation

We request the complete case file, have witnesses heard by the examining magistrate and test every item of evidence for lawfulness and meaning.

Steering before the hearing

Where possible we steer towards dismissal, a favourable disposal or preventing a hearing. Early intervention pays off.

The hearing

We speak on your behalf: defence on procedural errors, evidence and sentence. You know exactly what will happen in advance.

Judgment and appeal

After the judgment we decide the next steps together.

You have the right to remain silent and to speak to a solicitor first. Make use of it. Do not make any statement before you have spoken to us.

Clarity about the costs

Legal aid (pro deo)

If, on the basis of your income and assets, you qualify for legal aid, we arrange it through the Legal Aid Board (Raad voor Rechtsbijstand). In the event of arrest a lawyer is often assigned automatically.

Paying clients

If you fall outside legal aid, we make clear arrangements in advance about the hourly rate or a fixed fee. You know where you stand — no surprises afterwards.

Always a consultation first

Call us before you decide anything. In a short, confidential conversation we determine together what your case needs and what that will cost.
